Things change.

Well. It is now a long week-end since I wrote about art "light as air".Now it bothers me to think that I produce work which is like that. Where is the strength, where is the impact factor? So there you go, things change. I'm going to look at the works again with new eyes and perhaps work something into them which brings that thing out of me which has character rather than Pavlova meringue air. See More

It made me think about the definition of a printmaker. I am a screenprinter and I make one offs - no editions. Some people make monoprints, also one offs. Other people paint on their prints or print on their paintings. It would be interesting to see if anyone has an opinion about if there is a definition of a printmaker - or not.The other…See More

New Zealand arts and craft, from the eyes of an immigrant.Today, Friday 10 December, I walked through Auckland city, my home town. I had a look at some of the shops that sell handmade New Zealand stuff. Jewellery, ceramics, textile, glass, furniture, linen - so much. My impression was overwhelmingly how beautiful and well thought out everything was. Gone is the homemade "half pie hippie" sort of look. These objects are superbly crafted, tastefully designed and very innovative. There is a…See More

Pavlova. How is our personality expressed in our work?

There is a dessert in New Zealand and Australia which is called "Pavlova". The name comes from the famous ballerina who made ballet look weightless. This dessert is a kind of crackly meringe but is soft on the inside which makes it a little tricky to make. I have never attempted this myself but it is a popular dish. It occured to me today that, after some very trying times in my studio, that I quite would like my work to be - light as air. Today I…

You certainly seem to have a great handle on colours now! I am looking at doing photopolymer work with CMYK separations this term. To be honest I don't have my head around it yet, but I am sure once I start working on it, it will make sense!

Now that I have discovered printmaking I almost send myself into a state of panic thinking about all of the things I want to do and learn! Silly huh?! :)

I am going to be coming to Auckland at the end of September for a Roller derby training camp and game. Maybe we could catch up for a coffee and talk print? It would be great to meet you.

Yes the picture is of me and I am familiar with Cindy Shermans work. It is interesting how many women use their own figure in their work...often to express an idea rather than a completely personal reason. I would like to be better at mixing colours. I try to write down the mixes I do use in the hope that i will understand the alchemy.

Also, I do think our personality chooses the medium of expression. I have found myself starting to work in 3D with clay, plaster and found objects. Totally out of my comfort zone! But I am enjoying exploring, creating and experiencing. I have decided to take a meditative approach to my creative work and just enjoy the process. How about you? Has it always been printmaking that captured your passion?

I've been a bit busy with other things too so have neglected my Print Universe community. March 2011 is okay with me at the moment. Let me know details when the date gets a little closer.

Hi Suzanne,
Just back from the Symposium yesterday. It was very interesting with lots to digest but full on with the artists' talks.
I put in a proposal for an exhibition for Warringah members but haven't heard how we fared yet. I was talking with Marianne Crawford from MIT on the weekend & she said there were many proposals & quite a few from overseas so I don't know if our little studio will get a look in or not. We will hold an exhibition & demonstrations at our Studio for the Month of Print whatever happens.

Hi tnx to add.
I m inspiratet from Reflections of the Absent and the Present refers to the binary structure. The alienated perception and reception of my works manifest not only the exterior and the interior space positions, but also the inner and outer mental state of the author. Through the abstract weaving of the graphic epistle, i shapes the cover of my current creative imagination and fascination of the concrete media.
I have many favorite graphic artists and painters, but not my main inspiration.

Best wishes
